The words Oriental cuisine' are often used to umbrella all Asian cuisines, be it Thai, Japanese, Burmese, Chinese, Indonesian or Singaporean. I have often heard people ask for Sweet Corn Soup and Noodles in a Thai restaurant and I find it amusing when the surprised waiter politely explains why the items are not on the menu. Rightfully so, as noodles are not Thai; the dish that would come closest to it is pad thai, which is flat noodles (very different from the popular hakka chow) tossed with shrimp, peanuts and various Thai spices.
